Canada Womens team has Nothing to apologize for, They’re golden

Last Night, Feburary 25th 2010 Canada’s Womens team captured Gold by shutting out the United States 2-0. After the medals were handed out , an impromptu celebration took place with a bit of boozin’ and cigar smoking. One of them Marie- Philip- Poulin, just 18 and under age to drink in B.C.  Team Canada sent out their apologies this morning for their behaviour.

I feel the IOC (International Olympic Committee) Serious ly needs to get the sticks removed from their collective asses! It’s ametur sports which means little to no pay, it is all done for the love of the sport, competition and their country. If they want to party on their hom soil after winning a GOLD MEDAL who gives them the right to stop them. When in the moment things just happen and they wanted to party harty so what’s the big deal.

Poulin is a mere month away from turning 19 (march 28), not to mention she has dranken in her own province of Quebec, and she was under the supervision of teem mates and coachesm all over 19.

TheIOC plan to investigate the situation, which is lame because there are more pressing matters at hand like th DEATH of the luger and all the subsequent accidents. The IOC cant hand out any lame reasons like they have to set an example, Bull shit! They’re not on a pay roll and if it is its miniscule and in a few weeks  most of these ladies will slip back into obscurity so who the hell cares what they do.

Those hosers at the IOC need to realize we do things differently in the great white north and if they don’t like it they can take off!!

Congratulations to the Women’s team on the gold and celebrating their way

New Yorkers: Loud and Proud or just wankers?

yankee_fan-739206

Okay, so the world series ended on the fourth of November and I am just getting to this now but It is quite the epic tale.

Now first I am Canadian, and the Jays come first but my N.L. Team is the Phillies. Why is a question I get asked a lot… The answer goes back to ’93, with Dykstra, Schilling, Kruk and Co. I thought they had character and I dug that, so I followed them. Then In 2000/2001 They got Jim Thome from Cleveland and I liked him a lot plus Utley, Rollins, Hamels and the kids came up so it got better for Philllies fans.. But I digress.

Through the grace of god and a great connection I got to go to New Yankee Stadium for game 6, so I went with my hat and vintage jacket.. I may has well have walked in fresh from broad street. I got right off a plane and came from Queens to the Bronx. Walking the block around the stadium I got very uneasy like something was gonna happen but I didn’t know what.. So I get to the gate with my friend with our back packs and the security pointed us to a random bowling alley down the street where we could check them. So walking down the block we passed a few yankee bars and I got a lot of people booing me and getting in my face, I laughed it off and went on my way.. When we arrived at the place I took one step in and it was like, Picture an old western when the hero takes a step into the saloon and everyone turns to them, that happened to me, except replace stared with booed and swore! We finally check our bags and one drunken man who was half my size ( As I’m 6’8) taps me on the shoulder and gives me the finger and calls me a F*g. I was surprised but kept walking through the angry hoard, back out to the street through the sea of boos, phillys suck and personal jabs such as F*@k you and things like that. All this hate was thrown at me the whole block back up to the street to New Yankee Stadium, as I was about to go up to the security guard for a pat down, a guy had a cardboard face cut out of Pedro Martinez and he was drumming it in my ear screaming “whose your daddy” for a good minute.. Then a lady with a mic and her camera man got in my face and they asked me a series of questions of what it was like being in enemy territory and was I nervous, then a bunch of Yankee fans gathered around me trying to get me off my thought, but I answered them and went inside.

Inside the stadium was my safe haven, I found a few Phillies fans giving me high fives and props but I didn’t get any beef from Yankee fans all game. Once the game was over it was a scene. You would expect fans of a team who have won the title now 27 times to be happy and excited but a bit gracious, these fans were none of that, they were obnoxious and almost bitter.. They were angry at me even though they won, they were leading chants suck as “F@#k the Phillies” and people were screaming at me calling me a loser and swearing at me and really getting in my face. The people I was with were honestly scared for me, and I was a touch nervous but I knew there was cops everywhere so I felt at ease but also I wondered would they help out a Phillies fan. My friend went into the bar to get our bags and while I was waiting there were people coming up to me from all angles to say random remarks and threaten me.. several times people said if you weren’t so tall I would take a swing at you for wearing that. One of my last encounters before taking the subway out of the Bronx was a group of angry black guys who told me to get the F**k out of the Bronx along with several other curse words.

This story is true, and almost sad that they could get so angry and personal over sports, we are now at a place where gays are open and accepted and all races can walk anywhere without scrutiny but a phillies coat in the Bronx and I have a target on my back. I suppose it is because they are a blue collar slack jawed mentality that is very low brow and ignorant. I could say a few more words about what I think of New Yorkers but it is the Canadian way to turn the other cheek and be friendly.. I will say this, New York may be the “ greatest city on earth” in their eyes, but the people? For the most part rude, obnoxious and know it alls when they know very little. Now I know a nice New Yorker who is great but maybe it’s cause he’s a Mets fan… Maybe being a Yankees fan makes you a douche HAHA by George I think I’ve got it!

A Legend lost

hall_of_fame_broadcaster_harry_kalasApril 13th 2009 at approximately 1:20 pm Hall of Fame Broadcaster Harry Kalas passed away. He collapsed in a press box while getting ready to call the Phillies/ Nationals game. Kalas had been having complaints about his breathing but it had yet to hinder his broadcasting ability, he was 73 years of age.

Kalas started broadcasting in Hawaii while he was stationed there for the U.S. Army, he called minor league games for the Hawaii Islanders. Harry made his debut in the big leagues with the Houston Astros in 1965 and in 1971 he made his new home as the Philadelphia Phillies broadcaster. It was here where Kalas made a big name for himself. Known for his baritone voice, and high levels of excitement over big plays and home runs, Kalas called Philadelphia his home from ’71 until his passing.

Over his career Kalas has made many memorable calls, including Hall of famer Mike Schmidt’s 500th home run, the Phillies winning the world series in ’80 and in ’08. Kalas was also the master of ceremonies for the opening of Veterans Stadium and Citizen’s Bank Park. Kalas also was the Narrator for NFL films, and other various voice over ventures such as commercials, movie trailers, and he also called College basketball, and NFL football for CBS radio and Westwood One.

In 2002 Kalas was inducted into the broadcaster’s wing of the of the baseball Hall of Fame. The same year he was the recipient of the Ford Frick award, this award honors the best baseball broadcaster of the year. Kalas was beloved by the Philadelphia faithful and baseball fans around the world, will be sorely missed. As Phillies President David Montgomery said it best “we lost our voice today.

Growing up a Jays fan I was really only privileged to hear his calls in the ’93 world series. The enthusiasm and passion that Kalas possessed could be felt up in Canada. I grew into being part of the Philly faithful as I got older and I followed them closer and closer. I got to hear more of Kalas’ calls. In particular the one he made on October 29th, 2008. I rushed home through the rain to make it home in time to hear the call:

“One strike away; nothing-and-two, the count to Hinske. Fans on the their feet; rally towels are being waved. Brad Lidge stretches. The 0-2 pitch — swing and a miss, struck him out! The Philadelphia Phillies are 2008 World Champions of baseball! Brad Lidge does it again, and stays perfect for the 2008 season! 48-for-48 in save opportunities, and watch the city celebrate! Don’t let the 48-hour wait diminish the euphoria of this moment, and the celebration. And it has been 28 years since the Phillies have enjoyed a World Championship; 25 years in this city with a team that has enjoyed a World Championship, and the fans are ready to celebrate. What a night!”

It sent shivers down my spine. As a Jays fan we lost the great broadcaster Tom Cheek and it hit the city hard, so I can empathize with the whole city of Philadelphia. My heart goes out to you.
